Dr. Denise Schares assumed the position of superintendent for Clear Creek Amana School District on July 1, 2010. She is a native of Hudson, Iowa with 32 years of experience in public schools. Her background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Home Economics and Health, a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology; Teaching, and a Doctorate Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Her experience includes classroom teaching, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Iowa Department of Education Bureau of Food and Nutrition, Consultant and Assistant Director of Educational Services for Area Education Agency 267 and five years with Waterloo Schools, most recently as Associate Superintendent for Educational and Student Services.

Previously, Denise oversaw curriculum, instruction and school improvement processes as well as student services, special education and federal programs for Waterloo Schools.  

She also teaches a variety of classes at the district, state and university level.  She is a state trainer for the Teacher and Administrator Evaluation System and serves on the Iowa Core Curriculum Leadership Network.

Denise and her husband, Wayne, have two grown children.
